I always find it interesting that inspiration comes in such a myriad of ways. As I was thinking about what I would share with you today here on my blog, I received a message from my mom asking me to read something that she had shared on her blog yesterday … Something that she and I had a conversation about and that she felt inspired to share.
I hope you enjoy reading this incredible guest post, written by the most incredible woman that I’ve ever known ~ my mom. She is truly the reason why I have always known that I should, and absolutely could, be a stay-at-home mom.
I hope that you will find the same peace, comfort, determination and encouragement that she & I did in the Inspirational Video ~ The Power Of A Mother’s Love that is included in her post below.
“The daily loving acts of a mother are the power that enables a child to truly become.”
Val Haderlie ~ The Home Business Nana
The other day, I was writing a blog post and I’m afraid I’d gotten a little caught up in my story as I was retelling the circumstances that brought me to where I am today as the Home Business Nana. I was actually feeling a bit sorry for myself and ashaamed that I had not been able to be an at-home mom, especially when my kids were teenagers. I had just written a sentence that read something like: “I can still see how my absence created a negative ripple effect in the lives of my children.” Out of nowhere it seemed, I began hearing a sweet voice speaking directly to me. “Oh mylanta!” I thought. “She”s taking exception with the very sentence I just wrote!” Was some heavenly being chiding me? Reminding me of things I knew deep in my heart?
It turned out not to be that dramatic, but I still count it as amazing synchronicity. I had been looking at a blog on mothering and left it up on my screen. It had been there for probably 45 minutes and for some reason (call it what you want), the video on that blog turned on and began speaking to me of the power of a mother’s love!
I started the two minute video again and listened to every word. It was an exhilerating yet humbling experience. What I heard reminded me of all the love I had poured into and over those six children of mine. I quickly erased the depressing sentence I had written and replaced it with one that reflected how proud I am of these wonderful kids who had stepped up while I was working to take care of each other.
I share below this inspirational video that impacted me so deeply. Enjoy! ( It’s just two minutes long! )
Inspirational Video ~ The Power Of A Mother’s Love
A few minutes after this interesting experience, I phoned my daughter to tell her what had happened. We laughed that heaven might have been sending me a message that I needed to hear right then.
(This daughter and her husband have both in the past year walked away from the grind and long hours of being employees. The three of us are active and successful affiliates of the same online business, a business whose primary goal is to build leadership skills in people who have entrepreneurial hearts. I’ll come back to my tale. A few minutes after we hung up from our phones conversation, I received this text from her. At first, I smiled, comforted by the words of this adult daughter. Then I realized the great wisdom of her almost poetic declaration.
“Mom, don’t you dare beat yourself up about having to work away from home for the years you did.
We all do what we have to do, when we have to do it.
And when we find a better way, what amazing contrast, appreciation and gratitude we gain.
Our journey allows us to reach and relate to others who are walking the paths we walked.
They’re looking for a guiding light to assist them in escaping.
How could we lead them if we didn’t know their exact pain?”
It was my pain of not being home for my kids and grandkids that led me to become the Home Business Nana, a grandparent with the time to lavish her love on her grandies.
It was the pain of working every waking hour and having nothing left for her kids, that led my daughter to find a way so she and her husband could be the Work From Home Family.
Our whole role as parents and grandparents is to provide the daily loving acts that become the “core of a child’s sense of worth and capacity.”
The script of the video continues:
“It is this love expressed in ordinary small acts that make a mother the strongest and most consistent influence on every aspect of a child’s development.
The daily loving acts of a mother are the power that enables the child to truly become.”
I am thrilled to be the Nana of Darcy and Preston’s three beautiful children (ages 8, 5, and 3). I pray for the moms of all fifteen of our grandchildren that they will know deep in their hearts how much their loving care means in the lives of their little ones.
Motherhood is not a hobby. It is a Calling. It is not something to do if you can squeeze the time in. It is what God gave you time for.
There will be so many times when you will feel like you have failed. But, in the eyes, hearts and minds of your children ~ you are Super Mom.
All My Love,
Thanks so much for visiting my blog! If you enjoyed this post, please leave a comment. I’d love to hear from you and get to know you better. :)
